Strange Objects was written by Gary Crew in 1990. The novel is based around the shipwreck of the Dutch vessel the Batavia. With a collection of papers from history made by a boy named Steven Messenger, the novel explores the construction of history of the shipwreck. Whilst off on a biology camp, Steven discovers an iron pot in which had three objects in it; a golden ring, a journal and a mummified hand. Steven investigates into the media mania surrounding them, and in particular two murderers of the Batavia wreck, Wouter Loos and Jan Pelgrom.
